About Me

Paul

Hi, I’m Paul. I’m just an average, middle-aged bloke living in Manchester, UK.

About two years ago, I decided that although I was getting older, I wasn’t ready to give up. I started TRT and embarked on a health and fitness journey that I think has improved the way I look, improved my sex life, improved my sleep and vastly improved my mental health. This is a vast and confusing subject, so this blog contains my notes and research, which I hope you’ll find useful.

Please remember that I am not professionally qualified, so do your own research and consult the appropriate professional before making decisions about your health and fitness.

My Journey …

What is TRT?

So TRT? Testosterone is vital in maintaining male health, affecting everything from muscle mass to mood. Managing your own testosterone levels can hugely improve your life by increasing energy, muscle mass, sexual performance and decreasing fat. Testosterone Replacement Therapy does this by artificially increasing your testosterone levels.

About two years ago, I began to notice that these things were decreasing, and I happened to notice a Facebook ad for a TRT clinic. Cut to today, and I’m feeling great – I liken it to knocking 10 years off me. What’s not to like?

Is TRT Available on the NHS?

Well yes – but in practice and for most of us – no. For me – I didn’t even try to go down this route. [Read more here]

How do you select a Private TRT clinic?

ALL regulated clinics will have to complete an initial consultation with you to determine if your testosterone levels are low enough to be eligible for treatment. These levels are usually higher than what the NHS would deem to be treatable. So the probability of you being accepted by many TRT providers is greater, although not guaranteed. There is also a black market supply though gyms.

Also, prior to the second consultation when the doctor will be suggesting the appropriate medication treatment, it will be wise for you to know what medication you would prefer to be taking (i.e. injections or gels etc) in order for you to make a valid suggestion. All the types of UK available testosterone are [within these pages] and it is advisable you learn about these prior to your second consultation.

[On this page] I have listed the main TRT clinics in this country and have given the basic costs of treatments in order that you can whittle down for yourself your top three providers to make an informed choice. You will soon see that some providers may offer free blood tests and consultations but their monthly subscription will be high. Some will charge for the tests etc but their monthly subscriptions will be low. Use these overviews on the clinics page to establish what works best for you.

Another thing to bear in mind (… and something that I wished I had known) is that all medication from all these clinics are all the same. Testosterone cypionate from one provider – is exactly the same as from another, and so on. When selecting providers, keep in mind that once year one is over, all you will be paying for is your medication and two full blood tests. With this in mind you could choose to select a provider in year one that offers the most value for money eg: blood tests and consultations and then switch provider who offers the best value for money subscription meds when your blood testing requirement becomes bi-annually.

Provider ‘switching‘ is commonplace. Yearly contracts are rare and some providers will actually offer some sort of discount if they can poach you from another provider. Some providers will also offer discounts if you pay annually rather than monthly – usually the equivalent of two months free. The downside is that you will be unable to switch until the year ends.

So What Does TRT Cost?

I can’t say this is cheap. My current cost in year two is about £150 per month (including all paraphernalia) so it’s worth spending time doing your research.

It’s worth bearing in mind and work out the overall cost of TRT and all the extra requirements over the course of each year such as syringes, wipes, blood tests, travel containers and so on. In my case i inject twice a week and have full blood screening twice a year. This in addition to my monthly subscription and HCG treatment (and the syringes for this as well).

The first year is the most expensive year. The initial consultation, Initial blood test, follow up blood test, follow up consultation, three week review, 3 month review and blood test, six month blood test and review … the costs really do mount up and that’s before you add on your monthly subscription for the meds.

However, once the first year is done and dusted the rest of the time will be plain sailing. The personal benefits of TRT by now will be well apparent, you will hopefully be feeling great and looking great. You will need to have full venous blood tests twice a year with the follow up reviews. With some providers the review will be included in the monthly subscription (some are not) so all you have to pay extra for is for the blood tests.

Yeah, but I can’t inject myself

TRT may mean having an injection of testosterone up to twice a week. For many people the fear about regularly injecting themselves may be enough to put them off entirely, and this admittedly was my main fear!! In hindsight it really shouldn’t have been. I think it was about 4 weeks in where it became the norm. I got used to the procedure and soon after I wasn’t even giving it a second thought. And, if you are still hesitant, there are alternatives such as gels and creams which may be an option instead.

What about travelling with TRT?

I personally travel overseas quite a lot throughout the year. My subscription includes all travel letters which I need in order to take my TRT through customs. In your final list of provider choice, ensure that you have enquired about prices for any documentation that you may require.
